Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
An important representative said the incident made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
